I have commissioned a programmer to create an application to convert ahem certain .PDF formatted files and turn them into Trandumper compatible text files as i feel this would benefit the community.
Will let you know updates as and when i get them

Oh yea if you get this done i will upload every test there is with the newest version. I have several different memberships where i get pdfs. I can remove all the protection myself but the formatting is a pain so i am def looking forward to this.

Well until the time comes when you devise an easy was of this task, can someone explain how it is done now? or are you just reading it in the text style?

Excellent idea!
The file protection could still be a problem, as until it's removed working an existing PDF can be an issue. You can scan them and conv to text, but that's time consuming. There are several PDF unlocking apps out there though together with front line PDF to text conversion apps. I have found that even with mainstream PDF \txt conv apps, there is still hours of work required.
I did see an ebay advert last year offering a chargeable pwd removal service, but I think that was withdrawn as 'inappropriate' by eBay.
Admin please keep us informed and good luck!

If anyone needs the protection removed just let me know. I have a pdf security crack that will crack testking, actual test, actual exams and several others.

Any progress on this?
I have a bunch of pdfs that i would like to see running in trandumper.

I also have someone working on this and it is in the beta stage. I am going to charge a fee, unsure of how much, to regain some of the costs but I will be able to get it done in a hurry.
Send me an email jeff@vandeleygraaf.com and I will convert one for free. So you can see how they will look.

well ran into some major problems extracting data from the pdf file. Need to research another way. Also found major bugs in the code. Will need to keep working on it.
Can get some to go, others... not.
Will keep pressing on jvandel - Mon Jun 05, 2006 6:57 pm Post subject:
Had to let the programmer off the hook. Costs were way to extreme. Continuing on my own from here.
Extraction working again. Fixed most major bugs in code.
Continuing on with the debug state.
Dan, let me know how the zip files worked out for you.

i had the same problem as you Jvandel in that the programmer started talking extortionate costs !!!
Let me know how you get on with your app
jvandel - Tue Jun 06, 2006 12:42 pm Post subject:
The app is working.
It's not 100% but it will convert a pdf rather quickly.
Still working out the bugs after the 3rd rewrite.
I had a programmer working on it solid for 2 weeks.
You can imagine the cost.
I have been short on time for debugging this week.
The last debug caused a complete rewrite, hopefully not this time.
Admin if you would like me to convert one for you let me know.
I will be charging for this to help recover some of the costs, but I'll give you one to see for free.
Just remember it's still in debug and needs to be proofed for accuracy and adjustment.

csinva - Tue Jun 13, 2006 4:55 pm Post subject: Open Source the project?
As you can see trying it alone can be costly and time consuming, why not make it an open source project on and let the community work on it together? Thier are several open source portal sites such as http://sourceforge.net/ that host these types of project.
Just a suggestion.

Yeah looking back I should have done as you suggest. Too late now, I am in too deep.
On the bright side, it is working very well, converts to dump about 95%.
The only problems that it has is when they use A. in the description before the actual choices for the quesiton and a few other minor ones.
Most are quite obvious as you go through the dump. A little tweek here and there but otherwise great. Can convert a pdf in less than 15 minutes.
On that note anyone interested, I will convert your pdf, file to dump for $20 if I don't need to fix the small things and proof it. Otherwise I will have to add some on for that. I will send it back to you to do whatever you want with it. I don't want to get caught up in the legal issue of copy rights so I will only convert what you give me and give it back to you in a dump.
I only am charging to help regain some of the costs of the programmer I had help me out. His expense went way over what I wanted to spend.

So after you have recouped your expenses are you planing on releasing it open source?
just a suggestion but if you really want this to turn in to a great application that has no bugs and intergrates great with trandumper, then go open source. Youll be my hero.

Yes, I am planning on it. I don't think it will be soon though. No one has asked for anything to be converted. I have saved myself many hours of having to convert pdf files. Tell you what flinte, I'll convert one for you. Send me an email at jvandel@new.rr.com
